Intel has announced that it has started shipping its latest X25-M 2.5-inch solid state drive for laptops.
Okay, so maybe Intel’s running a bit behind schedule, but it’s not like you can afford this thing anyway. The outfit has just announced that its 2.5-inch X25-M SSD is finally shipping in a 160GB flavor, though it politely declined to insult us with a presumably stratospheric sticker. Of note, the 1.8-inch X18-M counterpart should join it on select store shelves “next month.” Hmm, are we feeling a joint debut with a gaming notebook and / or ultraportable at CES? Yes, yes we are.
In addition to that, the company has also announced its plans to roll out the 160 GB model of its 1.8-inch SSD SATA drive, dubbed X18-M, in January for ultraportable laptops.
Both the Intel X25-M and X18-M SSDs are based on NAND flash memory. They offer faster boot times in PCs and reduction in overheating. Working on MLC multilevel cell storage technology, the 160 GB X25-M SSD offers read speeds of up to 250Mbps and write speed of 70 Mbps.
The Intel X25-E SSD that uses single-level cell technology has also been introduced for servers, storage, and high-end workstations.
Price wise, the 160GB X25-M and the X18-M SSDs are expected to cost $945
