Pentax K-7 DSLR camera Hands on gallery

The new 14.6 megapixel resolution offering will, Pentax confirmed site somewhere above the Nikon D5000 and the Canon 500D and below the Nikon D300 and Canon 50D.

Pentax is a name that will evoke fond memories for many photographers whose first SLR experience would have been with a Spotmatic, KM, K1000 or ME Super. Although the company’s market position isn’t as well entrenched as it was during the halcyon days of 35mm film, it continues to attract a devoted following of enthusiasts. And that following isn’t just based on nostalgia – Pentax is alone in having developed a comprehensive range of prime lenses for the APS-C format that dominates modern DSLR photography, while most of its competitors concentrate on offering a selection of zooms. Web 2.0 Mogul Michael Arrington Creates New Web Tablet

Web 2.0 Mogul Michael Arrington Creates New Web Tablet

The latest photos of the Crunchpad show that Arrington and his team may be getting closer to a finished product. The candy-colored packaging and the Apple-like rounded edges design should be enough to draw in users. Add to that the $200 price tag — if they can stick to it — and it could seal the deal for many users. Arrington has said he ultimately wants to make the specs available under an open source license so other manufacturers can build on it

Now photos of the device, called Crunchpad, have leaked online. Dustin Curtis, a user interface designer, posted four photos of a sweet-looking machine that could potentially compete with netbooks.

Arrington first wrote about the idea of a tablet in June last year. He suggested a touchscreen device that would run Firefox and maybe Skype on top of a More »

Hands On: Able Planet’s Clear Harmony Headphones

Hands On: Able Planet's Clear Harmony Headphones

If you are sick and tired of listening to all the bad press about the recession and how people are spending less but we need to spend more then there is a way you can do your bit. The first thing is to purchase a set of Able Planet Clear Harmony NC200 Active Noise Canceling Headphones with Linx Audio.

The headphones use Able Planet’s Linx Audio technology, which was originally designed for the hard of hearing; it not only reduces outside noise, it amplifies higher frequencies in the audio. Applied to headphones, the result is something that’s useful for people with normal hearing as well.

Think of it as preventive aural maintenace. When the ambient noise is so drastically diminished and the audio you’re listening to is selectively boosted, you don’t have to turn the volume up as high to hear clearly. In a few random tests where I switched between fairly good Sony earbuds and the Clear Harmony headphones, I was surprised to discover how much I’d turned up my iPod to hear music clearly on the earbuds. Keeping things at a lower volume with the headphones meant I was subjecting my ears to less stress, and incidentally reducing power demands on the iPod.

I’ve been using the headphones in a variety of environments, such as mowing the lawn (the reason I finally put them on) and riding on trains, buses and planes. The large cans seal my ears in nicely, shutting out a lot of the ambient noise on their own; turning on the noise-cancelling circuitry — the headphones are powered by two AA batteries — takes care of almost everything else.

DisplayLink release three new USB graphics processors and Linux source

DisplayLink Corp. has announced that the company is taking steps to bring its USB (universal serial bus) display technology, formerly available on Windows and Mac, to Linux.

DisplayLink’s chips enable one or more high resolution displays to be connected through the universal standard USB 2.0 connector. The new library enables creation of Linux software – X Servers, drivers, and other applications, which will work with a growing number of products using DisplayLink technology.

The library is provided under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2 (LGPL), enabling software to be ported by the community to cover the widest possible range of processors, platforms, and applications. This enables companies to create products which will work on the full variety of Linux devices like netbooks, notebooks, mobile Internet devices, mobile phones, embedded displays, embedded devices, digital signage, and more.

DisplayLink technology works by utilizing a single USB 2.0 (or higher) connector to drive up to six monitors, each daisy chained one to another. The communication can facilitate over any form, including through hubs, routers and wireless USB.
